My Sunday in Hong Kong started by watching my college football team, the University of Kentucky Wildcats, fall one point short of breaking a THIRTY YEAR losing streak to the University of Florida Gators… luckily I had a full day on Lantau Island to help ease the pain of the loss!
Getting There
Living in D.C. I appreciate when other cities have reliable public transport, and Hong Kong has — research Hong Kong public transport — blog post on public transport?
We were staying on Hong Kong Island so took the Ding Ding (see on my list of must dos in Hong Kong) to Central metro station where we easily
You can also take the ferry which is what we did on the way back.
Big Buddha
Take the gondola up to the top.
Explore the temple, souvenir shop, and check out the water buffalo.
Walk all 200 steps to the top
Beach Day
Once you’ve explored Big Buddha, you can head grab a bus to explore the rest of the island — warning if you get car sick be prepared.
Most blogs that I read beforehand mentioned Tai O fishing island but don’t stop there! If we’d had more time I’d like to have visited this area as well.
We actually made our way to Pui O Beach where we spent the rest of the day lazying around the beach after the hike. We took a dip in the ocean to cool off and saw more water buffalo. We also enjoyed beer and pub food at Maverick’s. I love the open-air and relaxed style of the restaurant.
As it got later in the day we headed back via bus to meet the ferry. There are a few restaurants and shops near the port where we grabbed a quick ice cream before heading out.
